Considering getting a 2017 Buick Encore. Too risky?

I have a 2017 Buick Encore. 48,100 miles on it. The check engine light came on today and I brought it to the mechanic. It needs a NEW engine?! Not really asking for advice and much as just wanting to bitch about this POS car? Will it be worth anything to trade in?
