Where in socal are you exactly? To echo what most people are saying one way to get involved is by showing up to the shows. Talking to people around you with similar music taste. Taking the bus if you really need to to get to these shows if there is a local scene by you then theres probably a promoter on instagram. Something I usually do when I visit new places is try to catch a show instagram is my go to for finding those shows but also going to a local record store typically there will be a spot with flyers for local shows. Or just go to the local alt bar and talk to folks see whats happening.
