Tap to send GIF?

I've noticed that when you tap a gif, instead of letting you type a message, it just sends it.

Now you have to hold the gif to add a message.

Is it just me?

Whatsapp's own FAQ seems to imply you can press the arrow to send after tapping on a gif.

It started happening just today.
