What’s your story with following the Supercars series?

I’m interested to hear everyone’s stories on how they got into Supercars and their supporting journey.

I started in 2006, on the final event of the season at Phillip Island. My parents thought it would be a great idea to have me go for Rick Kelly who was crowned champion (controversially) that day.

I tediously supported Rick, and to a degree Todd in their endeavours until eventually they joined Nissan and I started to lose interest in the series. I then just gave up and supported Jamie Whincup.

Went to a few events still, but never really supported anyone. Met that newcomer in a Volvo he seemed okay.

Completely stopped watching.

COVID came along and I had some really rough years. Housing. Family. Life. Moved back home with my parents, and one night sat down and watched Will Brown win at the Sydney SuperSickofThese Event.

Thought this Will Brown & Brodie Kostecki combo seem like a group of young “battlers” lol. Might give them a go. Supported them, met them at Sandown. The year after Chevrolet joined.

I remember watching the testing results (this is what prompted this post), and thinking, they’re weirdly quick. I’m sure it’ll fade. Well, it didn’t. Thanks to Brodie and Will for making me love watching Supercars again.

If that never happened, I never would’ve met the people I have at recent events. My kids would never have met Thomas Randle, who they adore. They were literally allowed to sit in his Supercar.

Thinking back on this, I just want to hear how you supported who you did. Was it, Dad goes for Holden so I will, or else? Or was it flip flopping, band wagoning? Car goes brrrrr.

EDIT: This is exactly what I wanted to read in the comments. Thank you all for sharing, there’s some awesome stuff in here.
