How to track freight train schedules and locations in the US?
I’m a huge railway enthusiast, and recently I’ve been really interested in learning more about freight trains in the US. I know that unlike passenger trains, freight train schedules aren’t publicly available, but I was wondering if there are any tools or methods to track their schedules or even their real-time locations?
So far, I’ve heard about things like ATCS Monitor and websites like HeritageUnits.com, but I’m not very familiar with how they work or if there are better alternatives. I’d love to hear any suggestions or advice from experienced railfans out there!
Also, I want to make it clear that I’m doing this purely out of interest. I’m committed to following all the rules and won’t do anything that might interfere with train operations or compromise safety.
If you know of any good tools, websites, apps, or tips, please share them! I’d really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance!
