The Lion as a Character?

I was thinking about how lackluster both the lion and the inner circle companions are and I had an idea. What if Lion El’Jonson could lead units (including ICC obvs)? Would that make him viable enough with no other changes? I only have a modicum of experience game wise, would this be broken somehow? Could he still be a monster and lead units or would he have to be an infantry character? P.S. sorry for unpainted models
