Democrats: pick up the constitution

Back in 2009 and 2010, the Tea Party made tremendous political hay of thumping the constitution. Looking back, they didn’t mean a damn word of it, but it was politically effective in the 2010 midterms and gave the party—which was lost following the Bush years and the Obama win—new direction.

Flash forward to 2025: the GOP is shredding the constitution, while still retaining their image of being the “law and order” party. Meanwhile, an entire generation of young progressives feel demoralized because they see no path toward positive change.

Democrats: start pounding the constitution. Trump and co are trying to ban certain language; pound the First Amendment. There’s undoubtedly some freaky Christian nationalism shit coming down the pike; own the separation of church and state.

It’s like it’s a forgotten document at this point. Pick it up, dust it off, and give the demoralized young people new reason to believe again.

The constitution has the political advantage of being a bedrock document. Everyone knows that we’re supposed to follow it, even though in many ways we don’t. It is advantageous to be on the side of the constitution; Trump is going to undoubtedly overreach many, many times. Throw the constitution in his face every single time. Teach the American people the ways their rights are being violated, and that the Democrats will use our founding document to fight back.
