I Wish Squid Game Challenge Took Skill to Win
There was more luck based trials than skilled trials and it kinda (for me) ruins the show because it’s not necessarily the best players moving on. Don’t get me wrong, Mai is a G and won that junk hard, but I would’ve liked to see less RNG involved in the process.
Here’s the list of the main games and how skilled they are:
Red light green light: 100% skilled
Dalgona: Cookie selection for most people was RNG, but actually getting that cookie cut was 100% skilled
Here is where the show falls off for me
War: I won’t go too far into the specifics because it would be an essay and a half, but to sum it up this game (for the eliminated players) was very hard to avoid even with the best strategy. No matter how good you are at battleship, there’s always going to be a lot of luck involved in pulling it off.
Vote: let’s be honest, whoever was at the front of the line could get almost anyone they wanted out due to the fear of being outed as the guy who nominated another person. It’s easier to follow the trend than to try and set a new one.
Marbles: this went both ways but it was at the fault of the players. If players chose a luck based game that’s on them so I don’t take points off. 100% skill
Allegiance: It’s just praying that you get picked minus the first guy, luck mixed with social manipulation.
Glass Bridge: need I say more?
Die Roll: again, need I say more?
Circle of trust: this game takes a certain skill set, however, the people who were unfortunate to have to go near first had a lower chance of winning when given the box. So pretty skilled but not fair at all.
Steak Dinner: literally just press a button and pray
Rock Paper Scissors: strategies can be used to help your odds, but since it’s about getting lucky with the key there’s still more RNG than I’d like for this one.
Like there was only 2 games that had no RNG at all, that’s not fun to watch. I get it’s hard to make a fair competition for 400 people, but I think they could’ve done better than that.
