Metal music newer than 1995? Tips?
I'm old. All my friends are set in their ways, and none of them share metal with me anymore.
I will admit, that except for Rammstein, I sort of lost interest in anything metal after Metallica's black album, and an especially hard pill to swallow was Blaze Bailey's stint in Iron Maiden. In fact, I still haven't been able to listen through. It's banned. All the metal I listen to when I'm in the mood, and that I, myself, put on, is pre-1995.
And that's stupid.
I need something new.
I've seen the plethora of subgenres, and I don't really mind classification, it may help to find new stuff to listen to.
Let's start with the subgenres I'm most familiar with: British heavy metal, Second wave of BHM, thrash, early speed, UK punk, 80's punk/surf punk, grunge. Not all technically metal, but, you know, loud and distorted. I've listened to some black metal as well, but the Norwegian stuff is just boring, and all of it is poser crap.
Now you know this, where do I go from here? What bands (and subgenre) would you recommend? Post link to a favourite song, please!
No djent, please...
And what subgenre/band do you think is underrated?
