Looking to get an engagement ring resized, any reputable mom and pop jewelers in San Diego?

I'm looking to get a ring resized, check the prongs and cleaned. I'm planning on proposing to my GF later this month.

This is my late mother's ring and it has a lot of sentimental value.

I was just going to go to any shop nearby but a few friends have advised against going to a random shop.

Horror stories of diamonds being replaced with fakes, etc.

I'm clueless when it comes to this kind of thing so any help or recommendations are greatly appreciate
