Always a bit mind-boggling how fast the transformation of life experience was for the silent generation.
Especially so in Europe. E.g my grandfather got displaced as a boy during the war and worked as a farm hand in a small village in Mecklemburg for two years or so. As nearly all horses got requisitioned during the war, he pulled the plow with an oxen (very annoying animals to work with). The only thing that was different in that village, in comparison to the 1600s, was the fact that a rudimentary hospital was within 20 km and the plough was made out of steel rather tahn iron. Going from living like a medieval peasant as a teen to every adult family member owning a car + indoor plumbing+ international tourism +household appliances 25 years later and even getting on the internet during old age is kinda wild.
