The more time I spend around conservatives the more unnerving they are to me

Idk if this is the place to post this but basically yeah I've been trapped in Republican areas all my life and the vast majority of people I have ever known where diehard conservatives. The shit you hear from online conservatives doesn't hold a candle to the run of the mill red state MAGAtard's opinions that they share in private. I just feel like you guys might understand

I really don't think the differences between your typical liberal and conservative are reconciliable in the least bit. My Trump fanatical stepfamily used to, at least once a day, work themselves up ranting about Democrats and progressives and "illegals" and "druggies" to the point they would be screaming at each other and red in the face; they'd just get that way from watching the news or just think themselves into a rage pretty much. They used to say shit like "The government should just shoot everyone who tries to cross the border and leave them to rot. Man, woman, and child. They're invaders and they need to make an example of them." They also used to say people who commit petty theft should have their hands amputated.

I've known a few guys from work who straight-up support the idea of about industrialized mass murder of LGBT people, like literal Holocaust shit. I work with another guy who gets red in the face with fury at the mere mention of gay people and refuses to visit the local "urban hub" (~80K people) because there are so many "gays" there. I also have known a lot of people who supported the industrialized, Holocaust-style murder or drug addicts, even if they themselves were drug users at one point, hell, even if they were actively addicted to pain pills or alcohol.

A lot of the guys I've worked with have collectively sat around and fantasized about people trying to rob them or break into their house or a civil war breaking out because it would give them a "morally justifiable" excuse to kill people and talk in depth about how they would murder and dispose of a hypothetical home intruder. Sometimes they also come together and extoll the virtues of beating your children and say society has gotten "soft" and the youth are "messed up" because it's not socially acceptable to beat your children bloody for the simplest of infractions. They also joke about beating and sexually assaulting women and they've also talked to each other about what it would take for them to decide to kill their wives. There's one guy I work with who watches conservative podcasts and works himself up into such a fury that he screams profanities at his phone at work in front of all the employees.

I really wish I was dealing with annoying self righteous shitlibs all day instead of this absolute insanity. But yeah this is basically what right wingers are like when nobody is watching them. These aren't the kinds of people you could have a civil disagreement about politics with and it really scares me about the future of our country.
