Perth train etiquette is shocking

What is the deal with the complete lack of commuter train etiquette in Perth? I've moved from a big city in North America a while ago and have found the train etiquette or lack there of shocking since moving. When the train is busy in the morning/after work, people don't move in they just crowd the door, no one takes their bags off their backs to allow more room, when people need to exit the train instead of people near the door stepping off the train to allow people off and then stepping back in like everywhere else in the world people are forced to push past everyone to get out, no one moves out of priority seats for elderly, pregnant, people push to get on the train before allowing people off and stand literally right in front of the door instead of allowing people off.. ! WTf! Is this because it's a smaller city and people have just never become accustom to adopting peak time behaviour or is everyone selfish? I get so frustrated and now I'm pregnant and notice even more!

Edit* people are getting confused with North America thinking I'm comparing to USA... North America is many countries not just the USA. I am from Canada where I have always found has very aligned values to Aussies in general.
