When was the last time the Panthers won a game they were favored to win?
I was quite excited to see the Panthers as betting favorites against the Cowboys on Sunday, it felt right after 5 of our 6 strongest performances of the season happening in consecutive weeks, but I was (unsurprisingly) let down once again. After checking sportsoddshistory.com - I was dumbfounded by what I saw. Sunday was the first game Carolina was favored to win in TWO YEARS, and the Panthers have lost NINE consecutive games in which they were the pre-game betting favorite to win.
- Week 15 2024 - DAL @ CAR (-2.5) LOSS 14-30
- Week 15 2022 - PIT @ CAR (-2.5) LOSS 16-24
- Week 4 2022 - ARZ @ CAR (-1) LOSS 16-26
- Week 1 2022 CLE @ CAR (-1.5) LOSS 24-26
- Week 14 2021 ATL @ CAR (-2.5) LOSS 21-29
- Week 12 2021 CAR (-2.5) @ MIA LOSS 10-33
- Week 11 2021 WAS @ CAR (-3.5) LOSS 21-27
- Week 7 2021 CAR (-3) @ NYG LOSS 3-25
- Week 5 2021 PHI @ CAR (-3) LOSS 18-21
September 23, 2021 was the last time the Carolina Panthers won a football game they were favored to win, going into Houston for Thursday Night Football as 9-point favorites and coming out on top 24-9. That Thursday Night game was 1,181 days ago, not only the longest active drought in the NFL (the Giants come in at #2, having won vs. Arizona in Week 2 of the 2023 season going in at -4.5 on the spread) but the longest drought of ANY team in the 4 major American sports leagues.
TL;DR - The Panthers aren't just bad; they're historically disappointing.
