What were your favorite *"never stood a chance"* performances of last year? (Mine: Willa Fitzgerald in *Strange Darling* and Katy O’Brian in *Love Lies Bleeding*)
We all know the Oscars/Awards season bubble often overlooks smaller films, genre flicks, or performances that just didn’t have the campaign $$$. Let’s shout out the actors who absolutely killed it in 2024 but never stood a chance at noms
My picks:
- Willa Fitzgerald in *Strange Darling: This movie flew under the radar (why?!), but her performance was unhinged, terrifying, and weirdly magnetic. Genre bias is really real, and A24 clearly favored other projects
- *Katy O’Brian in Love Lies Bleeding**: The raw physicality and quiet desperation in this gritty, surreal thriller deserved a lot more hype. Indies without studio backing always get shafted.
Who’s on your list?
- Hidden gems from tiny films?
- Horror performances that critics ignored?
- Actors in movies that flopped/weren’t “prestige” enough?
And if the actor just missed a nomination, I would say they don’t count.
