Baby suddenly refusing to feed—need advice!

Hey mamas, I’m really worried and hoping someone here has been through something similar. My EBF baby (used to be a great feeder—6-8 times a day, 30-45 min each session) has suddenly stopped nursing properly for the past two days. He’ll show hunger cues, I offer the breast, he latches for like 10 seconds, then unlatches and just stares off into the distance. Then he’ll come back, latch again, unlatch, repeat… until he gets super frustrated and starts crying. I’ve also made sure to feed him in a dark room with no distractions or sound.

Once I hand him off to someone else, he’s totally fine and happy. But then, within a couple of hours, the hunger cycle starts all over again. I even tried offering a bottle, but he does the same thing—latches for a few seconds, then stops. He’s only feeding about 4-5 times a day now, and each session is barely 10 min. His diaper output is at the minimum acceptable amount, but it’s definitely less than before.

I spoke to the pediatrician, and they said as long as he’s having enough wet diapers, it’s okay, but I can’t shake the feeling that something’s off. I’m so scared he’s not getting enough and don’t want him to get dehydrated. Has anyone else gone through this? Is this some kind of nursing strike? A phase? What can I do to get him back on track?

Would love any advice or reassurance from experienced moms. I’m so anxious over this!
