Having TWO rank resets per season is going to be the end of competitive
Not everyone has the time to try to beat the season timer constantly. Demoting everyone every 4 weeks is only going to create a massive (and very frustrating) disparity in ranked between people who are actually in their skill level and the ones coming back from breaks or that simply do not have time to play as often as needed to keep up with the timer and now need to climb back up.
I am in Celestial 1, and if I were to take a break and stop playing until season 2 (which is barely over a month from now) because god forbids I decide to take a break and play a different game, I will be nuked all the way down to Platinum 2 where there will have a combination of:
- People who were in Celestial 1 like me and took a prolonged break or did not play ranked as often during the second half of the season
- People who managed to climb to Grandmaster 1 between the upcoming reset and Season 2 and are now demoted to Platinum
- Players who were in Diamond and are now climbing back up from Gold
- Players who are naturally ranking up from lower ranks
And this is only after four weeks, now imagine what ranked is going to look like after three or four seasons where the disparity keeps getting bigger and bigger. Ranked games are going to be incredibly imbalanced which is inevitably going to drive people away from competitive.
Maybe I'm exaggerating but I'm already thinking whether I have the mental fortitude to grind solo queue back to my current rank where it's already hard to make progress every single month without being able to actually enjoy my rank, or if I will just casually jump on competitive and stomp on whatever low rank lobbies I end up after so many demotions
Edit: I understand the point of climbing to get a sense of progression and earning the rank you're in, but I'd like to at least enjoy sitting at my peak for a few weeks before having to earn it again. What's the point otherwise?
