Two sides of a same coin - Parallels between Kuruthipunal and Viduthalai. After a rewatch of kuruthipunal, it made me think so much about both the films.
- Kuruthipunal is a hunt for a terrorist where they really dont get into nassar's motive for violence. The main plot is how adi narayanan is being tested and how much of a nermayana komban he is, and the threats surrounding a man like him, for being the nermayana komban. They simply say that nassar is kind of a n*xal and moves forward with it. But viduthalai mainly dives into perumal's world and give us a view about how perumal became the man he is now.
2 & 3. In kuruthipunal, the opening scene is adi narayanan witnessing how he escaped from a near death but instead of him, its a bus full of school kids that die, which makes him furious and fuels his hunt for nassar. In Viduthalai, the naxals go to a point where they had to place a bomb in a railway bridge and it accidentally goes off, which becomes a biggest regret of the organization as they were unaware as they hoped someone would find the bomb and take their demands seriously.
- In Kuruthipunal adi narayanan and abbas execute operation dhanush, where they send a mole inside and try to destroy the terrorists from within. In Viduthalai, we can see that perumal and co are infiltrating a constable to get the information they want and tries to stay a step ahead of the government.
In kuruthipunal, adi says "the guys who preached you your ideologies are dead, retired, only guys like you remain now" to nasser. In viduthalai, perumal says "whoever fought for people's rights are our ancestors" and fights in their name.
Another thing i found is in kuruthi punal, a terrorist behaves inappropriately towards adi narayanan's daughter aka, terrorists are shown as the perverted bad guys here. In Viduthalai, chetan and co are shown as psychopaths, referencing to the real incidents that happened in the past on how police tortured women in police camps.
- Ironically both the movies end with kid's getting referenced. Adi's kid is being beaten up by the terrorist's kids and adi's kid fights back. A voiceover of adi says "An important credit for creating terrorists goes to politicians and governments. This vicious cycle should end at somepoint as next generation is being fed with it too" Kumaresan is narrating to his amma "people with power always write their story as history, they never say our histories as stories, please tell my sisters kids these stories so our stories pass onto next generation."
