marios towing

i recently totalled my car on the 97c close to merrit and was taken to the hospital while my car was taken off the road by marios towing a few days later. i had made several calls the day after the incident to every tow yard including marios towing to see if anyone had my car, no dice. that was about a week and a half ago. today i called around again and was informed that marios towing had picked up my vehicle and brought it to their lot 9 days ago and i was never informed as they "had no contact information" even though i had called them and informed them of everything about the vehicle including the fact that it had ontario plates so pretty easy to identify here. now they say i have a $2500 bill for the tow not including the daily lot fees which are 40$ a day. now my question: i don't necessarily need anything from the car really. it would be nice to go and grab some things but I do not have the money to afford those bills. would it be in my best interest to haggle with them on the price just so i can grab my stuff and give them the car for scrap or should i just not even bother?

also, the accident was just myself losing traction on the highway, nobody else was involved and it wasn't a DUI or anything of the sort so my car isn't impounded or anything, just completely totaled and worthless at this point besides the contents in the car (tools, books etc.) but nothing close to $2500.
