Anyone prefer the "closed" level design of BB and DS1-3 over the open world of Elden Ring?

I've beaten Elden Ring, DS3, and BB over the last 6 months and it's given my time to really compare the design of each game. When I initially played Elden Ring I was blown away by the huge open world. But after playing DS3 and BB again I realized how much better and replayable the regular levels were on those games. The clever enemy types, the shortcuts, the traps, and different layouts. These things are much less prevalent in Elden Ring. It's a blast to explore the huge world of Elden Ring the first time. But after that it's just empty space in between dungeons which are mostly average.

I think we're in an era where most people think "open world=good" but that's not true in all cases.
