What Should I Know Before Attending an LDS Service as a Non-Believer?

Hi everyone! I’m an atheist who’s been researching religion, including Mormonism. A few months ago, I had weekly discussions with LDS missionaries. They often invited me to their Sunday meetings, but I declined. Now, for some reason, I’m curious about attending one to see what it’s like.

I’m confident in my non-belief and don’t plan to convert, but I want to observe the experience firsthand. I’m in Brazil, and I’m thinking about attending the full two-hour block, though I’m unsure if I should stay for the second part.

I’d love your advice on:

1. What to expect as a first-time visitor in an LDS chapel.

2. How to navigate their love-bombing techniques without feeling overwhelmed.

3. Is it worth staying for the second-hour classes?

4. Any tips for managing family concerns—my parents are skeptical and might want to tag along or worry about me being influenced.

5. Should I tell the missionaries I plan to attend? I feel like not telling them might make the experience more authentic and allow me to meet others naturally.

But I’m curious if anyone thinks differently and has suggestions.

Also, is it normal for visitors to bring a Bible or Book of Mormon? I have both and thought it might be useful to follow along or fact-check passages.

I’d really appreciate insights from anyone who’s been through this or knows what I might encounter. Thanks!
