Controversial call… your thoughts?
Not my agency, but there was a call in my state that people are debating the actions of the EMTs.
They’re called to apartment complex for a mid 20s female for “burns”. This young woman was making lollipops for her friends baby shower and spilled the molten sugar down her stomach, groin and thigh.
When EMS arrived, the sugar was still actively burning and the woman was in hysterics. They took her into the bathtub and ran cold water until the sugar wasn’t burning anymore. The rest of the call was routine from what I heard.
She suffered grievous infections in the hospital that rendered her disabled for life. People are pointing fingers at the crew, saying that the non sterile water from the bathtub was the source of infection.
What are your thoughts? If the sugar was actively burning her skin when they arrived, they did the best they could in the moment? It’s a horrific call regardless.
