Diabetic nurse practitioner keeps asking me (FY2) to prescribe things for her patients in GP
I'm a FY2 who rotated into a GP rotation in December. One of the nurses who manages all the diabetic patients including long term monitoring and starting insulin, keeps asking me to prescribe things for her patients.
I have so far been unhappy to do this as they at patients who I have not seen and did not feel comfortable signing the the prescriptions. A few of the prescriptions upon enquiry are for starting patients on Insulin for the first time.
This nurse then got very annoyed by this and threatened to report me to my supervising GP. My supervising GP was supportive but said to just sign the prescriptions for the nurse as the GP trusts her. She also said if I had any queries with the nurses prescriptions to discuss it with her.
What are people's thoughts on this and what is the official stance on this BMA wise?
BMA advice re prescribing for others is predominantly based on AA, PAs or SCPs.
