I watched a concert without my phone this evening
I truly cannot tell you how long it’s been since I have watched more of a show through my eyes as opposed to a phone. It’s been at least ten years, and maybe even longer if you count digital cameras. Back to when I was still being driven to concerts by a friend’s mom I think.
I completely deactivated Facebook, and removed Instagram and TikTok from my phone. It’s been so refreshing, but I’ve still been trying to curb those moments where you want to check a phone.
I said I was going to try to watch the show without touching my phone. I quickly noticed that since I didn’t intend to post things anywhere, I didn’t have the urge to take a million photos or video. I took two to remember the show, one of my girlfriend at I at the show, and one video of a badass saxophone solo. That’s it, and they’re all for me.
It felt so weird when I noticed that. Like, it seemed like a realization that the feeling of needing to photograph and film the show absolutely stems from a need to post on social media almost to prove you did something, or to make people envious of you for a thing you did.
Anyway, I was really proud of that this evening. I had such a fantastic time and the concert was absolutely awesome.
