It finally happened…I was accused of being “an imposter of my son”
Mom had a rough week. Two falls in two days and two trips to the ER to get checked out after those falls. Tuesday was the first fall and left work to be with mom at the ER. She is two hours away from me. Everything was fine, and was back at memory care that evening. Thursday morning I got another call she fell and I left work again to be at the ER with her. She was very much out of it on Thursday. She was stuck in a loop - looking right at me she would call my name, ask me if I was still there, then ask if I brought biscuits and gravy. That is our Sunday routine, I drive up and spend the day with her and bring breakfast. She did this for three hours straight then she looked at me and said, “Let me see your eyes.” I leaned close and she said ok. This was the new loop. About an hour in I asked why she wanted to see my eyes and she said, “Because you’re not my son. My son never comes to see me so why would he be here?”
I understand a lot of things will come out of their mouth they have no control over or is a complete fabrication or figment of imagination but damn that one got me. Not what she said hurt but it hurt that she is as far gone as she is. It’s like a complete alternate universe she is in. Truly a prisoner in her own mind.
