DG is likely over. Let’s celebrate!

I understand many of us are sad that it seems to finally be over. But it’d be cool if the sub wasn’t flooded with people throwing blame at each other, yelling about glowsticks, shitposting, etc.

Obviously y’all can cope with this new info however you want, not invalidating anyone. But personally I’m feeling almost at peace in a weird way. Im going to miss DG, but more than anything I’m feeling…really grateful. Happy, in fact. This band changed my life. They changed my trajectory as a creative. Most of all, they allowed me to have a lot of fun and leave my cares behind while listening to their music or seeing them live.

The more time that’s gone on without new music, the more I’ve been seeing DG is a quintessential part of the 2010s, and probably something that should stay there. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love a new record, but does DG really even work in the current musical landscape? I don’t know, and part of me feels like they’re better off quitting while they’re ahead. They gave us a decade of awesome music and live performances of almost unbelievable energy. They’re getting older. The world is changing. And most of all, they don’t owe us anything. Not a new record, not even an explanation. They are quietly stepping away, and to me, that feels right.

We should be celebrating. Celebrate with me. This isn’t a bad thing, this day was going to come eventually. I’m not trying to come off as toxically positive or something, but the doom and gloom around here right now is kind of odd, though not surprising. If you’re sad, you should be happy that an art project from some talented guys in Sacramento could have such a profound effect on you at all. It’s a beautiful thing. Maybe it’s corny, but I just feel so thankful at the end of the day.

Thank you Death Grips ❤️
