word by word animation (without sweeps, opacity, scaling)

I'm a previous AE veteran getting settled in davinci resolve

I'm trying to use the Text+ Node with the follower modifier to achieve an instant word by animation without any nice scaling, sweeps or anything. Just one word appears, than 8 frames latter a new word appears.

Obv, this is possible by keyframing the rich text but that means if I change any word I have to redo every keyframe... not very optimal.

I'm trying to use the follower modifier but it seems to only allow me to have a word appear granted it's with opacity, scaling or some other effect.

I can't believe a software this powerful can't do that, do you guys have any work arounds?
