Anyone else have constant existential dread over AI?

Sr. SWE (~11yr experience) with a second baby on the way. I mention because that fact is probably not helping with the stress of the market.

I read a lot about the current models and agents being released. How these AI benchmarks, that were not supposed to be beaten for 5+ years, are now seemingly beaten every other week. I see the headlines about how close we are to AGI/ASI or Altman/Musk talking about the need for engineers being less and less even by the end of this year.

People seem excited about it. But I feel this dread of what are we going to do? I actually enjoy my job and what I do (I’m very lucky) but also how do we survive and provide for our families if we just automate our careers out of existence?

Anyone else struggling with this?
