Quit my job and reported to HR

iv been a PCT/CNA for 2 years at a local hospital ER by me. I get great employee reviews and am known to be very trust worthy (their words) to get my job done. A few days ago I was working a shift, it was me and 1 other tech for the entire ER (55 beds) well I assisted in a straight cath for a pt that was going upstairs to the floor and collected the urine. Another nurse approached me and said they needed help in peds with 2 different holds (to obtain iv access) I put the urine in the pts assigned slot and follow the nurse. Here’s where I messed up and I take full responsibility for it. I didn’t put a pt label on the urine before putting it in the assigned spot. Well when I returned 45 mins later (it took forever for the nurse to get it done and we had to use a translator for one) the nurse I assisted originally starts screaming at me. Here’s a run down Her: where were you Me: in peds holding (I told the floor before I left I didn’t just leave) Her: I paged you overhead 2 freaking times! Where is my urine!! Me: I didn’t hear you I’m sorry both kids were yelling (both kids were SCREAMING, we could barely hear the translator) Her: where the hell is the urine Me: I placed it in the pts assigned slot Her: oh? Did you label it Me: I didn’t see any labels I’m sorry Her: yeah cuz the pt already went upstairs! We don’t freaking put urine down without labels hello! Me: I apologize Her: I had to dig through the freaking garbage to get the bag and get another sample Me in my head* why wouldn’t you just call the floor and explain the urine was misplaced by the tech and they need urine? SIDE NOTE: the pt was NOT incontinent she had the flu and couldn’t use the bedpan or pure wick because she was having issues peeing lying down*
her: do you see how that was annoying for me Me: yes I do again I apologize Her: whatever, don’t collect my urine samples again! She then made a grand show of asking the other tech (who came on while I was holding) “ I need YOU to collect my samples, not her, you”

She did this in front of everyone to, pts heard, coworkers, providers, even people in the other side of the ER. I will handle a lot, I have very thick skin. I will not do public humiliation. Period. End of. I put my two weeks in THAT shift and called HR the next day. (I work nights) I’m done. I was already debating leaving because it’s an hour away and I’m in school for nursing but that was the last straw! I understand I messed up but there was NO reason to humiliate me in front of everyone.
