What are your favourite opening lines in all of literature?

It's my current read so there could be some recency bias, but honestly, I think my choice might be One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Marquez:

'Many year later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendía was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice.

I think it's such a wonderful introduction; shifting from such great stakes and scale with this mysterious Colonel's execution, to a day out with his dad without losing ANY of the intrigue is just genius. I honestly think I was more captivated by the prospect of the ice than the mysterious execution!!

I read that Marquez had that first sentence come to him while driving his family to their holiday spot and he immediately cancelled the family holiday so he could write the book. Before I read it, the guy seemed like a bit of an ass; after reading it, I back that play to the moon!!

It just had me wondering if any of the group had a particular favourite opening line?! I'd love to hear your thoughts!!
