Completely lost in choosing a new career path. Seeking advice.
I (45f) have been a dog groomer for 26 years. For the past 7 of those years I have been a business owner, a brick and mortar shop with employees and all the responsibilities that entails. After years of abuse from a very physical job, my body told me (firmly) that it is time to stop.
I have spent the past 3 months looking through job listings, trying to write a resume, and achieving nothing but becoming more lost than I was when I started. I have never sought a job outside of my trade, I can't afford a pay cut, and I have absolutely no idea what kind of job I am suited for. I don't know how the skills I had as a business owner translate to the current job market. Another physical job is out of the question. I need something that allows me to sit at least half of my day.
My education level is High School and a 3 month trade school over 25 years ago. Going back to school isn't really an option. I need to be making enough to cover my bills right now, not 2+ years from now. I feel that my life experience and the fact that I've been in the same line of work for so long should show my level of responsibility and dedication to a career.
If anyone has any advice to help me find direction, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for what kind of work is well suited to a previous business owner. I'm used to tight deadlines and working under pressure in a very high stress environment. I've got experience in hiring, firing, managing, and training people in a job with many safety rules and regulations. I'm intelligent, quick learning, responsible, resourceful and capable. I just have no idea where my skills fit in this modern job market. I need to be making a minimum of $65k just to survive in this city. Please help me find my path.
