Favorite low gain saturation?

I know this question is has been asked a million times but I'm wondering what the current consensus is.

I'm looking to put together a smaller pedal board to play country/Americana type stuff with just the essentials. I need a soft "saturation" type pedal for those moments where I want to poke out a little more and have some color. I build a lot of my own pedals so I'm looking for inspiration to build an all in one preamp type thing

I tried out my way huge pork loin and was a little disappointed, it was a little too fizzy and didn't sound great at low gain. My bass klon sounded a little better but still struggled at lower gain.

My sushi box bass dude sounded awesome but it would be a little difficult to fit into an all in one solution pedal.

What are some pedals that I should look into?
