Help me pick my next anime!
Hi everybody! I recently learned that I love anime and I'm on the hunt for some recommendations!
My all-time favorites are Frieren, Dungeon Meshi, Attack on Titan, and Demon Slayer.
Other animes I've enjoyed a lot are My Hero Academia, Death Note, Chainsaw Man, Apothecary Diaries, Parasyte, Made in Abyss, Solo Leveling, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Dan Da Dan, Mushoku Tensei, and Jujutsu Kaisen.
I've also seen Farm Life in Another World, Campfire Cooking in Another World, Parallel World Pharmacy, Konosuba, Mashle, Spy Family, Psycho Pass, and One Punch Man, which were all solid.
Mushoku Tensei is one where I detested the weird sexualized content but adored everything else. Made in Abyss falls in that category too, and was especially troubling because the characters are kids. I strongly prefer for my anime to have none of that stuff and will only overlook it in exceptional cases.
In terms of things I look for in an anime, beautiful art is important to me. Miyazaki movies like Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro and animes like Frieren and Mushoku Tensei are good examples of the art style I appreciate the most -- I'm a sucker for beautiful landscapes, detail work, etc. (And it's hard for me to get into an anime if I think the art is actively bad, like I haven't watched Soul Eater yet because of the art.) I also love when an anime has layers/complexity, like how Frieren has terrific worldbuilding and a cool magic system, while also having very strong character and plot development, while also having a lot of poignant things to say about friendship, loss, loyalty, etc.
Last, in terms of genre I like fantasy, isekai, sci-fi, adventure, and emo/angsty stuff lol. I definitely don't like mechas, and I'm not really interested in trying out sports, romance, or pop star anime. I like horror movies, btw, but haven't really seen any animes that I would think of as horror, so I welcome suggestions in that vein too!
I would love some ideas of what to watch next. Thanks y'all!!
