When you "order" any Index hardware from the Steam store right now; you will be put in a queue. You will be prompted (via email) to fill in your payment & address details when your hardware is ready to ship to you.
When you've "ordered", you can check your shipping estimate here: https://store.steampowered.com/account/history/
Within about a week of it being ready to ship you will receive an email prompting you to complete payment & fill in your address details. When you've done so and your order is successful; you're done. All that is left is to wait for your Index hardware to arrive.
Questions
My shipping estimate decreased, is this normal?
As some people are cancelling their orders, you’re moving up in the queue so the estimate for when your order can be shipped (and paid for) is sooner.
Will I get Half-Life: Alyx for free?
Yes. When buying any piece of Index hardware (except for base stations) you get a free copy of Half-Life: Alyx - regardless of when you buy. It is unclear at this time however if pre-order bonuses are given out to users who "ordered" before the release of the game but the finalization of their order is set to be after the game's release.
When will I get my copy of Half-Life: Alyx?
It seems you get your copy added to your library when your order is finalized (Payment & address details are given).
Can I use Steam Wallet Funds to complete my order when the time comes?
You should be able to, but it's generally recommended to reach out to Steam Support to make sure your account is "Cleared" as we've had some people run into issues in the past. (Some accounts were unable to order hardware with wallet funds to (we think) prevent fraud - that is until Steam Support marked them as "cleared")
Are there any other costs to completing my order?
- Shipping is always free when ordering from the Steam Store.
- In Europe taxes are already included in the price.
- In the USA taxes will be applied on top of the 1000 USD price depending on your state's tax.
I’m trying to fill in my shipment details; but it won’t let me proceed! What do I do?!
Some users have reported not being able to proceed on the shipment details page but then being able when they change their formatting.
Example: instead of Dutch postal codes being filled in like 1234AB, 1234 AB (with a space in between) seemed to work for some.
My shipment status has been processing/shipping soon for some time, when will it change?
The “processing” status remains for about 24-48 hours. After that, “shipping soon” can take a few days. Then after it changes to “shipped ” and you’ll receive an email with tracking information.
