Tears of the kingdom vs breath of the wild

I loved breath of the wild, my favorite parts were exploring the villages, ruins and hidden places in the map. I also thoroughly enjoyed interacting with npcs. Although I’m skeptical in buying tears of the kingdom since it takes place in the same world. Are there new places? New npcs? Does it actually differ that much from botw? And would it be fun for someone who enjoys exploring and doing their own thing aside from the main mission/side quests.
