What supplies are best to donate to homeless people?
Lately I’ve been bringing things to the encampment near my apartment. I leave soup cans with tab openings and things of that nature. I also leave extra ziplocks and things as well so they can store things and keep them dry. I don’t have a lot of money so the things I donate are usually from the food pantry. It’s just me so in the past I would grab less than the item limit. While I still do this I now grab a bit extra so I can leave some there. It’s a small encampment with only a couple of people I believe but I’m not super sure. I just set things on the curb about 10 ft from it. I don’t wait to see anyone grab it or watch the encampment. I just check to see that the items are gone. I don’t often have spare funds but in the event I do I like to add things like a pack of socks. Is there anything that is inexpensive that anyone recommends leaving? I try and leave high calorie drinks or Gatorade. I also try and leave only sealed items so they aren’t worried about tampering. I did however make ramen in the cup and left silverware and some hard boiled eggs still in the shell because it’s raining and I wanted to leave something warm. I’d like food recommendations and item recommendations. Thanks to anyone for tips/ advice!
Edit: I got a message saying I am encouraging encampments. Moving them or reporting them solves nothing. They will just be homeless somewhere else and/or as soon as they’re gone someone else will be there in a matter of days. As long as they mind their own business and aren’t causing damage or creating issues like yelling or fighting etc… I don’t care that they are there and I’d rather help than sit by and complain without doing shit to make it better in ways that I can. I know it’s small and doesn’t do a lot but I do it in a safe way and I leave them alone. I drop off and walk away.
