New to the game

I feel so overwhelmed and confused and everything is chaotic and there's a lightning storm and everything is on fire while my armed lil dudes were out on expedition my base is raided by some thorn shooting abominations and almost everyone on base died and the survivors went batshit crazy and start attacking my base with his lil knife because he's upset and losing it wtf is going on i didn't skip tutorial but the tutorial didn't prepare me for any of this. Also 7 hours went by without me even realizing. Is there even a goal in this game?
