Why is the R6S community so toxic?

Hey there,

I gave my son R6S for Christmas. We played a lot over the holidays and had a great time together.

He got into the game pretty quickly because he already had experience with "Breachers", which does have a few things in common - although significantly less complex.

I played Rainbow Six Siege for about 1.5 years when it was released, then had a 1-2 year break and every few months I check back in and play for a few weeks. In total I've played just under 500 hours. That's not a lot, but not a little either. I usually don't know the current meta well and after 50-80 hours I usually lose interest again for a long time.

According to Tracker.gg, I was at my best in Operation Health with an MMR of 3,201 - that was in 2017. Since then I've played almost exclusively solo (some times duo) que. I'm not very good, I have my moments when, with luck, finesse and even more luck, I get a clutch or an ace - but that rarely happens.

Anyway - I have a lot of fun with the game. If my teammates fail but haven't done anything completely stupid, I write "nice try" in the chat, if someone has done something good, I write "well done". If someone has messed up, I either write nothing at all or give constructive criticism like "please don't barricade between the bomb spots" - I don't shout at anyone, I don't shoot or kill teammates on purpose, I just keep playing and think to myself "hopefully I'll get better teammates in the next match". And in most cases, I give all players a thumbs up after every match.

I've been playing Rank with my son for two days now. I've already told him that it's going to be hard and that things are going differently. What I didn't expect was that not a round goes by in which you aren't forced to mute half the team. Spectators who constantly tell the last survivor what to do. Someone is always shouted at because they aimed poorly, made a wrong decision in a stressful situation, missed an opponent, whatever... I understand that it's annoying - especially in rank - but if you can't live with the fact that one of your mates is worse than you, then don't play soloque.

A player - who wasn't that bad otherwise - was shouted at today because he missed his aim in a 1v3. Yes, he could have gotten one more kill, but the other two attackers had already surrounded him - perfect aim wouldn't have been enough in that situation. In the next round he was teamkilled by the screamer... again: because he missed a shot. And the screamer himself was usually the first to be shot down because of overly aggressive gameplay. Really no help for the team.

What kind of toxic community has this become? I thought CoD was bad, but this is ridiculous. I just want to have a good time and get better at the game. I'm Copper V - and I assume that my opponents and my fellow players are at a similar level. If you're not a Smurf, you're still a beginner in Rank and either you're only coming back into the game after a long break (like me) or you're really new and learning the game and its complex mechanics.

To get better, you have to play with better players and against better players. You just have to start somewhere. You can't buy anything with the Rank and it's too easy to always look for mistakes in others. Why don't you support newbies if you think you're so good yourself.

Well... what do you think of the community in general? Will it get better or do we have to find 3 more permanent players so that we can always play with five people?
