Random question to all you lovely Filipinos
Ok, so I’m a Brit, live in the U.K. and my partner is a Filipina, hence me coming to this subreddit in the first place. I Love her to bits, she’s amazing and you should all be proud of her, I won’t give details for privacy reasons but she’s very successful in her field :-D I have even had the pleasure of going out to the Philippines a couple of times now and I love the country and the history too!
Anyways, I’m half Scottish, half English myself and I’m very much aware that Pinoys have a tendency to sort of just lump all us Brits together as essentially being from or close to London. Which is almost as crazy as us assuming you’re all from Manila (although most Brits know next to nothing about the Philippines other than Manila, Manny Pacquiao and Duterte).
So, my question is, what do you guys know about Scotland? Fire your stereotypes at me, I’m genuinely curious! For those who know a little bit already, what do you think of Scottish culture? Let’s keep it simple and focus on Scottish stereotypes, do you like bagpipes and their music? Kilts? Tartan? Haggis? Irn Bru?
Sorry this post isn’t in Tagalog, I can barely speak it (getting better, slowly!) nevermind write it and google translate is hilariously bad.
EDIT - So many fantastic replies, I need to get off to bed now. I’ll try and reply some more tomorrow, magandang gabi sa lahat
EDIT 2 - Woke up to like several hundred more messages, I will try and reply to a few more later today after I get home. The general gist I’m getting is that you all know whisky, the Scottish accent and Braveheart 😂 Incredibly endearing, already had a soft spot for Filipinos after meeting my partner and visiting but it’s grown even more after this wholesome response from you all!
Final edit - I’ve tried my best to keep up, there were just so many responses! I’m gonna call it quits here and thank you all one last time for your replies! I have read every single one even if I couldn’t find time to give a direct reply. You’ve all done the Philippines proud and I can’t wait to get back out and visit again (hopefully later this year!). All the best from this half-Scottish, half-English bloke who has a real growing love of his partners beautiful home country, the Philippines may have its problems but it’s a great country with great people!
