Is Coyle a good guy within the trial environments?

Leland Coyle is a corrupt policeman, rapist, and serial killer. One would be tempted to label him a villain based off these character traits. However, when you view him within the context of the self-contained narratives of each trial, a more complicated picture emerges.

In the trials taking place within the Courthouse and Police Station environments, reagents are put in simulated scenarios where they must advance the interests of the Murkoff corporation at the expense of the public by subverting the law, destroying evidence that could expose Murkoff, killing people who could testify against Murkoff, or rigging courtroom procedures to allow Murkoff VIPs to escape justice.

During all of these scenarios, Coyle opposes the reagents and by extension, opposes Murkoff's insidious attempts to escape accountability. While his methods are extreme and even perverse, from a utilitarian point of view Coyle is doing his job by protecting society from corporate overreach. Coyle also demonstrates a charitable attitude, as he is seen deputizing people who are severely mentally ill.
