HELP ME SAVE A DEAD TRANSGENDER COWBOY

The title basically says it all. This tombstone belongs to a Mr. Sammy Willams who lived in Manhattan Montana. There is no question in my mind or anyone with eyes mind that this was a transgender man long before that word had been accepted by the wider society. There is simply no reason this person should be misgendered over a hundred years after his burial.

I would love to change his tomb to simply say Sammy Willams. But I have no idea how to even begin to go about this task. Do I need to try to find living relatives? Has anything like this even been attempted before? I know how deeply this community cares about trans rights in life and death. If anyone has any ideas or insight or wants to work with me on this I would greatly appreciate it. I am a 21 year old college kid so I have neither the expertise or understanding of death law to take this task on alone.

Thank you, A humble internet stranger.
