I hope Nintendo never adds system-wide achievements

It just turns people into OCD freaks that have to have everything unlocked and will buy or not buy games just because of their achievement lists. I’ve even been guilty of this myself. Achievements turn games into chores and checklists. I don’t mind if a game has its own in-game version like Feats or whatever but please never with the system wide implementation (PlayStation, Xbox, Steam). Achievements create an artificial drive to push yourself past the point where you’re not even having fun anymore.

I like how Nintendo is still focused on the basics. There should be no reason to buy or play a game other than the fact that it looks fun to play. Nintendo feels like the last bastion of gaming still being pure and innocent. I think achievements can warp the idea of what gaming is supposed to be about. It’s not about completion stats or showing off how many shiny things you have. It’s about fun or relaxation. And I think Nintendo should be committed to upholding that idea.

Edit: I know people will say oh well you can turn off the notifications or just not go for them. I’m saying they shouldn’t be a part of the equation at all. I think their very existence and them being enabled by default is a detriment to gaming and to new people getting into gaming.
