Am I doing this right?

I got this monstera from Lowe’s it was $11 I brought it home and split it up. This is my first time owning one. I have a little wooden stake there because it was falling over. There were these spots on one of the leaves and I’m not sure why but it came like that. Any advice or does it look like I’m doing anything wrong? I decided to try to grow one in soil and the other in leca. The white residue is from neem oil.
