Solutions for "VAC was unable to verify the game session"

I know people had this problem a few months ago, but I got it yesterday for the first time. Maybe there is someone that hasn't solved the issue yet or someone who got it recently like me. Here is a guide to what I did and what could work for you guys.

To my knowledge, the message popped up out of nowhere. I had done nothing that would interact and/or corrupt the counter strike files and I was obviously not cheating. The things that were still working for me was Community servers, default offline maps (such as dust 2, mirage etc) and offline workshop maps. The game modes that didn't work was Competetive, Deathmatch server, Arms race, Demolition and Casual.

After some research, I found a massive amount of tips and tricks that could solve the problem. Here is what I found:

1 Sometimes the Vac System gets an error and could be resolved with some basic tricks.

First of all, just exit steam and relog in and try to search for a Competetive match. If it starts searching the issue is gone.

Exit steam and run both steam and Cs Go in administrator.

Exit and restart steam. Go to Cs Go in your steam library, right click on it and press properties, choose the local files column and press "Verify integrity of game files". If there is any corrupt files steam will automatically fix the issues, hopefully also solve the problem.

It could also be as simple as just restarting your computer.

Reinstall Cs Go on your computer (make sure to save your config and all other executable files you may have).

2 Steam support suggested this to a Reddit user:

Exit Steam Log back in Switch to offline mode Switch back to online mode Restart steam and verify the integrity of game files

3 A Reddit user said that changing the profile picture and nickname solved his/her problem.

4 Clear steams download cache.

Go to steam settings Press the downloads column and choose "clear download cache" Restart steam and run as administrator

5 A Reddit user posted what a German website suggested, here are the multiple command Prompt solutions they suggested:

  • 1. Start the "Kernel Integrity"

Close Steam Press the Start Button and search for Command Prompt don't forget to start it as Administrator. If you have Windows 8, 8.1 or Windows 10 press Windows Key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin) Type in the Following bcdedit /deletevalue nointegritychecks bcdedit /deletevalue loadoptions Don't worry if it says something like "An error occurred while attempting to delete the specified data element. Element not found." it just means that you don't have that type of Problem If you didn't get the error continue and restart your Computer

  • 2. Deactivate "Kernel Debugging"

Close Steam Press the Start Button and search for Command Prompt don't forget to start it as Administrator. If you have Windows 8, 8.1 or Windows 10 press Windows Key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin) Type in the Following bcdedit /debug off Don't worry if it says something like "An error occurred while attempting to delete the specified data element. Element not found." it just means that you don't have that type of Problem If you didn't get the error continue and restart your Computer

  • 3. Activate the "Data Execution Prevention"

Close Steam Press the Start Button and search for Command Prompt don't forget to start it as Administrator. If you have Windows 8, 8.1 or Windows 10 press Windows Key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin) Type in the Following bcdedit /deletevalue nx Don't worry if it says something like "An error occurred while attempting to delete the specified data element. Element not found." it just means that you don't have that type of Problem If you didn't get the error continue and restart your Computer

6 Deactivate or bypass your antivirus program and firewall for a small period of time.

Somehow your Antivirus or Firewall could block the Vac System

7 Repair the steam-service

Close Steam Press Windows Key + R Enter The Following "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\SteamService.exe" /repair if you have steam in a different directory change it to the right directory where you installed Steam. (The command should include the quotation marks). Start Steam

8 Another Reddit user suggested that deleting some Steam files and let Steam reinstall them would help.

Go to steam directory and delete "Steam.dll" & "SteamUI.dll" & "clientregistry.blob" Go to Steam\bin and run steamservice.exe as admin Start Steam and verify game files

If this didn't help test reinstalling steam and hope for the best.

Not one single trick worked for me. I desperately tried to fix the issue for about 4 hours but couldn't. After 6 hours waiting the issue had solved itself, I have no clue what the problem was and how it could fix itself, but it did.
