Pulse
Please give opinions/critique (This is my first attempt writing and I want genuine . This is supposed to be a dark/edgy superpower story and an attempt to imitate and stray away from elements of works like Solo Leveling.
PULSE.
“32 armed men outside of my cabin. All are between ages 22 and 28 except one. A 34 year old burly man named Brian, and as well as a 46 year old woman named Jesse.” I half muttered and thought. Bright blue lines of light from my hands snaked their tendrils into the ground and then into the small militia outside. The blue beams never radiated light even despite how I saw them, just invisibly reached to my now known assailants. This group of peacemakers was one of the many border patrol teams on the Northern borders of Texas, tasked with research and security. The sturdy and padlocked front door was suddenly kicked in. “Strength. Level 2.” I see around Brians outline. Slowly, I walk around the corner to give Brian his first view of me. “Don’t Move!” He yells as he points his tungsten spear at me while directing other men to come in and surround me inside. “Strong, are we?” I ask Brian, “Why a spear over a gun?” I ask as I take a small step towards Brian. 300 miles per hour... Brian swings his spear 300 miles an hour at my face. I can take the hit easily or dodge it, but the instant the spear is about to connect with my skull, everything evaporates…
It was Tuesday, June. Summer was just beginning and my birthday was coming up in about a week. I had stayed up until 1 in the morning and was falling asleep. I didn’t wake up normally, nobody did. I woke up in Arkansas, with just my underwear. Whaley outdoors, “Best outfitters in Arkansas since 1978” A large sign read above me. The sun was hot, it was midday and beat down on my hair and bare skin. The asphalt I woke up on began to burn my skin. Yellow and white lines of a town street met with my feet as I jogged to the outfitters store. “Hello!” I yelled into the store not really expecting an answer. There were no cars, no talking, music, just the electric buzz of a dusty air conditioner. I decided to find some clothes, most things were suited for winter weather but there was a rack of basic black tee shirts and black shorts. I also found a light backpack, a 20 ounce water bottle, and a pocket knife. I filled the water bottle in the bathroom sink and ran outside. “Hello!” I yelled, outside this time and much louder. I look to the left of the street and see nothing, then to the right. “A person!” I think to myself. “Hey!” He yells back at me while jogging swiftly over. “You just wake up too?” I ask him. “Yeah, I have no idea where we are.” He says, catching his breath. He has a light Minnesotan accent. I point to the sign above the building I was just in. “I’m from Cali, where are you from?” “Minnesota.” He says in a puzzled voice while looking at the sign. “How did we get into Arkansas?” He says as I lead him to the spot where I woke up. “Holy fuck…” I say quietly, as I point to the North. “Jesus Christ!” He says as he sees what I am reacting to. Seemingly Infinitely tall blackish grey walls surround the skyline all around us, hundreds of miles of land in each direction overshadowed by an unreal sight. The new guy falls onto his knees as we stare up at the ungodly box, trying to grasp any sense we have left.
This is part one, everything so far after the first paragraph is part of the prologue. (Character details are purposely left out if anyone is confused about that.) I hope you enjoyed it far. Please give comments on any improvements and have A good day.
