[Spoilers]Lorne Malvos Shades of Green Riddle
I know I'm late to this but I only just finished watching this series yesterday and I wanted to have a discussion about this riddle and the finale, particularly the moment where Gus kills Malvo.
This is how I view it: We are initially given an answer by Molly that it's because humans needed to be able to differentiate predators from their surrounds while evolving. This initially seems to be answer, however it takes over a year until in the final episode for Gus to actually "figure it out", just before killing Malvo. So this suggests to me that pretty clearly Molly's answer is not the whole answer, and there's something more to it.
Gus eventually realizes the answer is not because we needed to see predators, but because we needed to see prey. Humans are the predators, not the prey. He knows the only way to survive is to become a predator himself, and thus he knows that he has to kill Malvo. This also fits in with the wolf symbolism in the final episode.
That said, whenever I go on reddit to read about TV shows I'm always amazed by how much I miss that is picked up by other more observant redditors. So give me your opinion on the riddle and if it differs from mine, and is there anything that I missed?
