Cater sens to environment?

Due to the way my desk is set up I don't really have a lot of space for a big pad so mine I believe is 14x10. I was told or I saw somewhere that You should be able to 180 going from the center to the edge. But what I'm finding is that I'm often having to recenter my mouse and I can't track something going to the right if I have to flick to the right to get on target unless I re-center immediately after flicking. This takes time and depending on the game by then I could be dead. Are my only two options; up your sens or rearrange your setup and get a bigger mousepad? Or is there something else I could try? This sounds like an obvious question, but I genuinely want opinions on what you would do
