Mink Oil for breaking in smooth leather?

Ive heard mink oil can be a good alternative for keeping smooth leather soft and conditioned and prevent cracking, since we all know it’s harder for conditioner to get to the leather through the Plastic coating.

My question is mink oil a good idea for my smooth leather docs? Will it ruin the shoe or will it actually soften and do what I’ve heard.
