A safe character

This is just a sweet idea. I don’t know if anyone else does something similar but you guys definitely should. I call it a “Safe Character” it’s a single character (usually a silly one) that is always friendly towards the party, whenever they meet the character, wether in a swamp, mountain, or sea. They never come across anything dangerous, no monsters, no puzzles, no traps or tricks. They just relax and we have some fun time roleplaying while the party relays tails of their adventures to the character. The character themselves has nothing to do with the story, Will never betray them, Will never be threatened by an NPC, and will always offer them food and healing supplies. It’s just a nice cool down from the absolute freight train that DND can be sometimes. My players love it. Their current safe character is named Berny, he is a frog man who always wears a grey, turtleneck sweater. But it doesn’t have to be a character if you don’t want it to be, it could be a place just as easily, or maybe even an item. If you have any stories about something similar please share! I’d love to hear them!
