Just Got My HDFC Millennia Credit Card Approved! Elated! 🎉
I’m just so happy right now, guys! I feel like I’m on cloud 9—just got my HDFC Millennia Credit Card approved! 🎉
Here’s my journey:
I opened a savings account with HDFC on Jan 1, 2024, and got the Millennia debit card with it. I used the debit card extensively—spent around ₹1.5L in 3 months. My monthly average balance (MAB) fluctuated wildly, from ₹60k to literally ₹100 rupees 🤡, just so it wouldn’t be flagged as dormant(As I’ve heard many of them here say that their MAB was always 1L in savings account account and they would get a CC pre approved).
Quick backstory: I’m a graduate doctor, preparing for my postgraduate exams but during my savings account KYC, the guy marked my profile as a student with an income of <₹50k. I realized this only today when I applied for the Millennia credit card. I contacted customer care to correct it, and they told me to email them. I sent the mail but haven’t heard back yet.
Meanwhile, I noticed that the Millennia credit card was pre-approved for me on NetBanking (along with Freedom and Swiggy cards). Even though it wasn’t LTF, I applied for Millennia because, hey, it’s one of the better cards and an unsecured one too. Earlier, the only pre-approved options I had were Freedom and IndianOil, so this felt like a big win!
Now, let me rewind a bit:
• A few months after opening my savings account, HDFC started spamming me with emails saying I had pre-approved credit cards. I ignored them, assuming it was spam.
• At the time, I had no credit score or history, but I thought applying for the Freedom credit card would help build it. I screwed up big time by marking myself as a student with no income, and, of course, got declined. Lesson learned.🤡
After that, HDFC wouldn’t let me apply for another card for two months, saying there was already a card application “in process.”I called the Customer care but they told me it was “DECLINED” and asked me to wait for 10-15 days and then apply.
Desperate to get my first credit card, I applied for the Amazon Pay ICICI card(As I was pre approved since I spend a lot on Amazon), but that was rejected because I didn’t have a credit history or score.
That’s when someone here on the subreddit suggested activating Amazon Pay Later to build credit. I did just that, maintained 0% utilization, and they reported it after a month. Boom within a month—my scores jumped to CIBIL 748 and Experian 753.
• Axis Flipkart card and Neo? Rejected.
• SBI cashback card? Also rejected today (lol).
After that, I decided to get the IDFC WOW FD-backed card for its zero forex fee (I make a lot of foreign transactions). But their process was a nightmare—technical issues everywhere, and I got hit with 4-5 hard inquiries just for this secured card. (I’ve already mailed them to remove these inquiries, let’s see if they do).
Eventually, I got the IDFC WOW credit card and even made a post about it here. Many redditors told me not to apply for any more cards for 6-8 months, to let my score settle above 750. But honestly, I couldn’t wait. I’m not that patient guy, so I said, “Screw it,” and applied for the Millennia, thinking, “What’s the worst that can happen?”
To my absolute surprise, my credit card application got approved today! It was an unexpected one.I was like, WTF? With 10-12 inquiries in 2-3 months, I thought I was a lost cause. How did HDFC even approve this? What’s with their algorithm man?!
The tracker now says, “Your credit card application is APPROVED.” But here’s the thing—am I celebrating too soon?🤡 Could they still decline it later, or is this approval 100% legit?
I’ve heard from some people that HDFC doesn’t send confirmation texts or emails until the card is dispatched. Can I finally breathe and celebrate this win?
Let me know if I’m in the clear! Please feel free to chime in guys.
